Vibrant experiences, lasting memories — life at Lot Mashiane Secondary School
At Lot Mashiane, we believe that a truly enriching education goes far beyond textbooks and examinations. Our vibrant school life programme ensures that every learner has the opportunity to discover their passions, develop new skills, and create memories that last a lifetime.
Holistic Development
From the thrill of the sports field to the creativity of the arts stage, from the intensity of debate competitions to the warmth of cultural celebrations — school life at Lot Mashiane is dynamic, inclusive, and deeply rewarding.
Our extracurricular programme is designed to complement our academic curriculum, fostering teamwork, leadership, resilience, and self-expression. Every learner is encouraged to participate in at least one activity beyond the classroom, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.
Building strength, discipline, and team spirit through competitive and recreational sport
Our boys' and girls' soccer teams compete in the Bojanala District Schools League, with regular training sessions and inter-school fixtures throughout the season. Many of our players have been selected for district and provincial teams.
Our netball team is a source of great pride, consistently performing well in district tournaments. The team trains twice weekly and participates in the annual North West Provincial Schools Netball Championship.
Our annual Inter-House Athletics Day is one of the highlights of the school calendar. Learners compete in track and field events, with outstanding athletes progressing to district and provincial championships.
Celebrating our heritage and expressing our creativity
Every September, our school comes alive with vibrant Heritage Day celebrations. Learners dress in traditional attire, perform indigenous dances, and share traditional foods, honouring the rich cultural diversity of South Africa.
Our award-winning school choir performs at school events, community gatherings, and regional choral competitions. The choir's repertoire includes traditional Setswana songs, gospel music, and contemporary South African compositions.
Learners with a passion for the dramatic arts participate in our annual school production, which addresses social themes relevant to the South African youth experience. Past productions have earned acclaim at district arts festivals.
Exploring interests, developing skills, and building friendships
Our debate team hones critical thinking and oratory skills, competing in the South African Schools Debating Board provincial tournaments. Several members have represented the North West Province at national level.
The Science Club provides a platform for curious minds to explore scientific concepts beyond the curriculum. Members participate in the annual Eskom Expo for Young Scientists and undertake community-based environmental projects.
Senior learners volunteer as peer mentors, supporting younger students with academic challenges and social adjustment. This programme builds leadership skills and strengthens the sense of community within our school.
Marking milestones and creating cherished memories
The annual Matric Farewell is a glamorous celebration of our Grade 12 learners' journey. Dressed in their finest, learners enjoy an evening of dining, dancing, and reflection as they prepare to write their final examinations.
At our annual prize-giving ceremony, we celebrate academic excellence, sporting achievement, and community service. Top performers receive certificates, trophies, and bursary nominations in the presence of proud families and educators.
Professionals from various fields visit our school to share their career journeys with learners, providing valuable guidance for subject choices and future career paths. Universities and TVET colleges also present their programmes.
Every day brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun.
